The Wonderful World of Joseph McCrumble

 by Dr Joseph McCrumble.

Edited by Dr Mark Booth

284 pages, paperback, ISBN 1846855055, RRP £7.99

Joseph McCrumble is a scientist-artist of incredible integrity and dedication. After being kicked out of university for the crimes of his supervisor, he devotes his considerable energies to re-founding the McCumbernauld Institute of Parasitology. His vision is to carry on the groundbreaking work of the original founder, Professor Ebeneezer McCumbernauld, who - despite never publishing a paper - made numerous discoveries and contributions to parasitology.

But things do not quite go to plan. Joseph may be dedicated to the cause, but mostly he just can't see the wood for the trees. His optimism is tested time and time again as things go increasingly wrong. Despite the efforts of his long-suffering wife, Dolores, he suffers mishap after misadventure, from the jungles of Papua New Guinea to the lowlands of Scotland via the game reserves of Kenya and a guest house in Kings Lynn. Having a kleptomaniac mother law merely adds to his troubles, and his twin children can barely hide their contempt. Only his loyal staff seem to bring him any fortune. But how long can they keep their boss from a sticky end?

It's a rollercoaster ride for our eponymous hero, with more twists and turns than a plumbers convention, and the brakes aren't working...
